Season: Late fall into Nov and Dec.
Habitat: Throughout the Mt. Elphie forest in moss, soil and duff. Sometimes along trails.
Edibility: Reported 'edible'
Description: Orange brown cap atop solid orange/brown scaly stalk. Stalk white above conspicious white ring. Cap conic with broad knob to nearly flat. May have tints of green.
Comments: This striking mycorhhizial mushroom can be found in late fall throughout the forest, often in large groups. It's stalk is the same as that of a Pine mushroom (Tr. magnavalre) except for the colouring.
DETAILS
Cap: Up to 20 cm. orange/brown with streaks and tints of green. Viscid with a white margin and scaley with age over center.
Stem: Up to 10 cm, 4 cm thick, tapered down, smooth above ring, loose orange/brown scales below.
Gills: Off-white with rusty spots. Close, broad and adnate.
Viel: White viel dissapears and leaves solid white ring.
Spores: White, broadly elliptical 4 - 5.5 X 3 - 4 µ
